Sergi Darder signs new contract until 2026
Midfielder renews contract with the club
Sergi Darder has signed a new contract with RCD Espanyol until 2026.
The club and the player have reached an agreement to renew his contract, which was set to expire at the end of the season. The 28-year-old has signed a four-year deal which runs until 30th June 2026.
By signing a new deal, the club has ensured that one of its most important players and a fan favourite will continue to play at the RCDE Stadium.
Darder joined Espanyol’s academy aged 13 having begun his youth career across clubs in his native Mallorca. He progressed through the club’s youth ranks to make his debut for Espanyol B, before signing for Málaga in 2012.
Three years with Málaga was followed by a move to Ligue 1 side Lyon, but after a stint of the same duration in France, it was time for Darder to return home. He returned to Espanyol in 2017, first on loan, before the deal was made permanent the following year.
Darder has made 206 appearances in the blanquiazul shirt, scoring 18 goals and registering 21 assists. The midfielder has now reached a decade of association with the club throughout his career, and the new contract will see him continue for many years to come.
The Spaniard has established himself as a key player and a team leader in the Espanyol squad, with his passing, vision and quality shining through from the middle of the pitch. With the new deal, the club shows its clear commitment to an academy graduate and an important player in the team.
