Moreno: "We want to perform at our highest level"
The coach previews the New Year's Eve fixture against Valencia CF
RCD Espanyol coach Vicente Moreno talked in the run-up to his side's final game of 2022, which takes place on New Year's Eve against Valencia CF. The coach acknowledged the spate of positive COVID-19 cases that have affected both teams this week, but is refusing to dwell on the issue.
"We have worked like always. We prefer to take these situations naturally and concern ourselves with the players who will be available. There have been a series of players test positive, and I don't want to hazard a guess at how many players will be out."
Of Valencia CF, Moreno says that “they are a team with a lot of potential and are having a great first half of the season. They have won their last three games in a row. They are very tough opponents at home; I know that ground and how much the fans push the team on. Two historic teams will be facing off, and I hope that victory will go to us."
He believes that “We have a big chance to get the three points. We want to perform at our highest level, because that gives us more options to win. We have plenty of motivation, regardless of the streaks and the statistics surrounding the game."
On the end to 2021, Moreno stated that “I pay more attention to the positive things we have done and I can see that we are on a good path, but there is always room for improvement, for instance with our results away from home. We want to win and we always work with the idea of maintaining and improving all of our statistics: Both the good ones and those that are not so good."
