Match Report: 1-1 draw with CD Leganés
Los Pericos share the points with relegation rivals
RCD Espanyol played out a 1-1 draw in their LaLiga Matchday 19 game with CD Leganés, as Leandro Cabrera had his opening goal cancelled out by a Cisse equaliser for the opposition.
Coach Manolo González sent his side out to find the free man, create spaces and reach the opposition area with danger. It paid off after just 2 minutes, when Cabrera met a Král assist to score and put RCD Espanyol 1-0 up.
Jofre Carreras was very active and had two very clear chances to extend the advantage, but the happiness was cut short by a quick attack by CD Leganés, who pulled back level thanks to Cisse. The players claimed there had been a handball at the start of the action, which VAR did not consider punishable.
Espanyol were able to generate superiority in many areas of the pitch, and had runs forward from Roca and Brian Oliván to provide chances. Many balls were sent into the area, but none were sent towards goal except for a header by Kumbulla, that Dmitrovic saved.
To start the second half, Javi Puado created a move that ended with a very dangerous shot close to the top corner. RCD Espanyol seemed convinced that they could take the victory against a side who were limited to attempting to surprise on the counterattack. It was precisely in one of these actions that Joan García was required, producing an exceptional save.
After the scare, the first changes were made for both teams. Jofre switched over to the right wing and was involved in two very dangerous actions that narrowly missed the goal.
Before the end, CD Leganés' Neyou sent a shot against the post and Joan García had to intervene miraculously in quick succession, then RCD Espanyol's Alejo Véliz scored what would have been the winning goal. However, the referee decided to disallow it for a handball, and the spoils were shared.
