Moreno: "There was nothing in the penalty"
The coach expresses his opinion after the 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad
Understandably frustrated following a late penalty that condemned his side to defeat in San Sebastian, Vicente Moreno reflected on the loss to Real Sociedad in his post-match press conference.
"I spoke to the referee about the final move that led to the penalty. From the dugout I could not see it clearly. Now we will look at it more calmly in the dressing room. I don't usually talk about the referees," said the coach of the incident that decided the contest.
In the first half, it was Loren Morón who could have had a spot kick for Espanyol, which Moreno saw as a clearer case for a penalty.
"There has been a lot of talk during the season that the idea was that soft penalties were not going to be called, and the final incident was not even a soft one -it was nothing. There was minimal contact. In contrast, I saw the case for Loren to get a penalty in the first half as very clear. It was a kick in the calf. In the final action there was nothing," Moreno argued.
"We were up against high-level opponents. Even if you want to take the ball from them, hold onto it and have chances, they don't let you do that. When defending, you have to suffer and defend well. We didn't say at any time that we didn't want to have the ball. I would have liked to have had 100% possession," he stressed.
"The players put in a great effort, and it is not easy when it is a game like this. When we had the ball we lacked conviction. We needed to generate more damage in attack."
