Martínez: "There are mistakes that are costly for us"
The coach reflects on a 2-1 loss at the hands of Real Sociedad
Talking after a 2-1 defeat away to Real Sociedad, RCD Espanyol coach Diego Martínez called for unity and improvement during the international break in his post-match press conference.
"We are a team, in the good times and the bad. The coach, which is me, is the one at the forefront in defeat and moments of difficulty. We tried hard and are aware of the types of mistakes that we have been making," he told the media at the Reale Arena.
"It's true that we all have that frustration, and it affects the entire game, but we have to keep improving and not lose confidence, because we can't fall into a vicious circle. We need the players to be at their best."
Insisting on a positive approach, Martínez added that "We are trying to get each player to perform as well as they can, and we have to stick together. We have to be very strong mentally and keep fighting. There are no magic recipes. You can only turn things around with a victory. The team are doing many things well, but there are also mistakes that are costly for us. We have strengths, spirit and character."
"I don't think the team deserve to have so few points, but it is what it is. We are aware of those mistakes, but more extra work cannot be done to stop them. However, we cannot concede so much in the Primera División, or gift chances. Football is all about confidence."
