Match Report: "It's not enough, but it's positive that we didn't lose"
The coach gives his verdict on the 1-1 draw with Valencia CF
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González commented on the showing against Valencia CF after the final whistle, saying that “we had a good first half. We created chances to score. Their goal in the second half hurt us and we were very nervous at the end. There were also a lot of young players out there. I'm happy with the first half.”
González added that “in the first half we achieved what we wanted by looking to get around the fullbacks. In the second half we lost our way a bit and without playing well it's difficult. We had a lot of misplaced passes in the centre of the park. We suffered a lot with the goal we conceded.”
The coach also commented that “when you are in the relegation zone, you are nervous. That's logical. This is not about me or whoever. It will be very difficult and it will be a long race for us and for the other teams. I take away what the opponents tell me about what we do well, but there are situations that can be improved. We need a lot of clear chances in orer to score. It is often difficult for us to recover from setbacks.”
Finally, he declared that “the point is not enough for either of us. We both needed to win. We didn't do much damage to each other. It is not enough for us, but it's positive that we didn't lose. We had to win at home. We had the game under control, and the fact that it got away like this really bothers us.”
