Lazo: "I’m facing a very exciting challenge”
Espanyol's new signing speaks at his presentation
José Carlos Lazo was unveiled as an RCD Espanyol player at his presentation on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old forward has joined the club on a long-term contract which runs until 2027. He spoke at a press conference in the Juan Segura Palomares Auditorium at the RCDE Stadium, alongside Mao Ye, club CEO, and Domingo Catoira, sporting director.
Lazo said, “I really want to help the group. I hope to contribute goals and assists and that it will be a very good year for everyone. I’m facing a very exciting and nice challenge.”
The Spaniard has spent the last three seasons at UD Almería, helping them win promotion to LaLiga last season. Asked about his preferred position, he said, “I think I’m best on the left wing, but I don’t mind playing on the right - I do well on both.”
Lazo joins Espanyol as their eighth signing of the summer transfer window. Alongside former club Almería, he has previously played across Spain for Real Madrid B, Villarreal B, Recreativo, Getafe and Lugo.
“It is a very big step in my career,” Lazo said, “This year will be key to continue growing as a footballer and as a person. We can beat anyone. We don't have to think that we are any less than other teams.”
Speaking on the club’s latest recruit, Catoira said, “Lazo can play in all attacking positions. He has to give us the necessary balance to achieve advantageous situations. He comes with great ambition and must see it as a challenge”.
Welcoming Lazo to the club, Ye said, “Welcome to Espanyol, we hope that you can contribute a lot to the team.”
