"It has been a complex market"
Rufete believes that blue and whites trainer Vicente Moreno has a versatile squad
RCD Espanyol's sports director, Francisco Joaquín Pérez Rufete, acknowledged in an interview with the club's official media that it has been a “complex market due to both the current situation and the change of dates,” and added that the objective was “to rebuild the group in the best way possible, and have a clear and decisive position.”
In this sense, Rufete insisted that he is "very happy with the competitiveness and with the possibility of giving the coach a versatile squad." He added that the last minute incorporation of Álvaro Vadillo represented "a good opportunity," and he thanked the player's "great predisposition."
The sports director pointed out that the plan "translates into players and enthusiasm for our people, and helps the club to get some numbers that help us to have peace and stability." Rufe insisted that it has been "a different market," and commented that "together we are a stronger club."
Likewise, he wanted to emphasise that important players continue in the discipline of the first team: “Our players are ours. We have to defend our heritage tooth and nail, and the players remain because of their predisposition. I am happy they've continued because they are going to give a lot: they are the present and future of Espanyol.”
The sports director commented that the sale of Marc Roca to Bayern Munich should serve as inspiration for youth players. “Since he arrived at Espanyol Marc Roca has only been here, and he reached the first team and was European Under-21 champion. Despite moving down, he has been signed by the European champion. That shows the greatness that Espanyol has and the prestige it has; you have to be proud,” he reflected.
Rufete also sent a message to the blue and white fans: “We are sad because we need you more than ever, you give us so much every weekend. I want to thank you for always being with the club, despite the difficulties. It is my passion, my people, and it will continue to be that way in good and in bad times. I want us to be proud of how we have done it, because we are going to achieve it.”
