González: "There is no room for relaxation"
The coach urges maximum focus ahead of the Copa del Rey game against San Tirso
The only thing concerning Manolo González at present is this Thursday's Copa del Rey game against San Tirso, as he puts the Barcelona derby on the backburner for the time being.
Speaking about the cup contest, he explained that giantkillings are always a possibility -drawing on his own experience as coach of Badalona and Ebro: With the former he eliminated Getafe, and with the latter he almost sprung surprises against Granada and Valencia.
"This game allows players with fewer opportunities so far to gain minutes. It is good for us to have this experience. We are professionals and we have to have the ability to play two games in a week. We have to go out there to compete, not to throw the chance away. The more rounds we play and the further we get, the better for everyone. Among other things, because getting through rounds helps you to improve in LaLiga,” he told the press on Wednesday.
“There is no room for relaxation. We wear a badge and a shirt and the club have to be represented. We take it very seriously. San Tirso are a team that can create difficulties for you."
“They are a team that do things well. If you don't start the game switched on, things can happen, so motivation is very important.”
The coach also took the opportunity to repeat that“we have mentally prepared the players for tomorrow's game, then the derby will come after that. We want to win tomorrow and give a good showing, so that people gain confidence.”
Finally, the coach offered condolences on behalf of himself and the entire club to those affected by the severe weather event in Spain.
"We give our support to help in every way possible. We hope that this situation improves for everyone as soon as possible.”
