González: "The team will respond well"
The RCD Espanyol coach looks ahead to the game against UD Las Palmas
Before RCD Espanyol's game against UD Las Palmas on Sunday afternoon, coach Manolo González talked to the press, explaining that he wants the team to recover the good form they had at the start of the season.
“What I want is for us to give more. I think we have had the capacity to do so, and we are capable of competing as we should. We don't want the same kind of showing as we had against Girona, but rather one that allows us to compete on equal terms," he stated.
"Winning away from home would be very important, because that gives you an extra boost. It would have an impact on the standings and on our confidence," he continued.
"We have said all season that this year would be very difficult. We have to learn to live with that and we are prepared to compete like this. Against Valencia CF, this past Wednesday, the team were good in the first half, although it was a difficult game. Tomorrow the team will respond well again. From within the club, I see the players as being committed and eager to have a good match.”
González revealed that one thing he focuses on every week is “not allowing second chances, because that affects the match. That was the case in Getafe and then we were not able to turn the result around. We have to correct that urgently.”
"Las Palmas are at a good level and they already demonstrated that with Luis Carrión as coach. They also competed very well then. The misfortune was that even when doing a good job they were unlucky. With Diego Martínez they have found that effectiveness.”
