González: "The players were amazing"
The coach praises his team after the win over Celta Vigo
RCD Espanyol coach, Manolo González, said in the press conference that his team had a great match and that the victory was a just reward for the players.
“They have taken a weight off their shoulders. It was difficult because of the opposition, because they are at a high level. They score a lot of goals. If you are not playing well, they are the a type of side that will show you down. The team were aware that they wanted to redeem themselves after recent results. The players were amazing. Even if we hadn't have won, I would have thanked them, they gave it their all,” he analysed.
González pointed out that “it was very important to win because we were coming off a difficult run. The feeling is also very important, with us almost keeping a clean sheet, with defensive solidity and us understanding very well the match we had to play. We had a complete match, a great game. This is the way forward. We have to go at 150%. It is the way to get the team out of this situation and keep the team in the Primera División.”
"If you are an Espanyol fan, you coach the first team and the whole stadium sings your name… it gives you huge pride. With the team in the relegation zone too. I will be grateful to them for the rest of my life. It was amazing. I would never have imagined it. The word 'team' comes above all else. That way we are sure to achieve our objective,” he said.
“I am very happy for the players. Those on the bench contributed, helping their teammates. This is what ultimately helps you achieve survival. What happened in the stands made us immensely proud. It was crazy. The gratitude I feel is priceless. People knew that the situation is tough, that the team had just lost. They value our work, they know that there are difficulties. The fact that they value your work despite the bad results is appreciated. You have to give your all to repay the trust,” he concluded.
