Darder: "I'm very optimistic about what I see at the club"
The RCD Espanyol attacker gives his views on the start to the season
Sergi Darder talked after Thursday training at the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque, answering questions on a number of matters involving RCD Espanyol.
In a week that saw the departure of Raúl de Tomás from the club, Darder said that “It has been a strange, troublesome issue. We in the dressing room treated it with calm, but in all around the club it was the only thing that people were talking about. It was difficult having him with us and we tried to isolate ourselves. In the dressing room we are a very united group and hopefully we can continue improving the atmosphere through to the end of the season."
“Those of us who are here are because we want to be here. I see a good coach, a good Sporting Director and a good project. If somebody doesn't want to be here, then the door should be open for them to leave. Those of us who are here are proud to belong to the club. RCD Espanyol is above any person," he underlined.
Besides the atmosphere within the group, Darder also emphasised that harmony with the fans is also fundamental.
“You have to understand every opinion that the fans have. Our job is to get them excited again. Rare are the times in which fans have been proud of a team with so few points. I think that our performances have not been as bad as the points total we have. Our obligation is to get them excited again. That can only be done by us. It is down to us, because everything is easier when you win."
To conclude, he sent out an optimistic message that he believes things will pick up for the team.
“I think we have adapted faster than we expected. I also think that we will earn more points than we have, despite the fact that the Primera División is very evenly matched. I think we have given too many points away and we need to get more. The team are on the right tack. I am very optimistic because of what I see every day. I am proud of us and happy with what I see. For a 38-game season, I am very calm about what I see."
