Braithwaite: “Our mentality is to win every match”
The striker praises the team's mentality ahead of the visit of Real Sociedad
Martin Braithwaite has made it clear that the team are going out to win every match, regardless of the opponent.
RCD Espanyol continue their preparations for their next match against Real Sociedad, who come to the RCDE Stadium on Monday night. The Danish forward has been in red-hot form up top, and insisted that the team has clear goals ahead for this clash and beyond.
Braithwaite said, “We must keep playing and working very hard. The most important match is the next one and you must not think about the results you are getting, whether you win or lose. Our mentality must be to win every match. Every match is very important, and the most important match is always the next one”.
In the absence of the injured Joselu, Braithwaite has been crucial for Espanyol. His five league goals include the winner against Real Betis a few weeks ago and the equaliser against Osasuna last weekend, which earned the pericos a 1-1 draw.
He continued, “I see a group of players with great potential, but we must focus on each match and the one ahead against Real Sociedad. Joselu’s injury is a blow for us, but we must keep going, injuries are a part of football, and I have a lot of faith in the team.
“I feel very good after 15 matches with Espanyol. It is important to score goals, of course, but the most important thing is the team and to win. To score goals but to also help the team win. That is my job, to score goals, but the most important thing is the team”.
Braithwaite concluded, “I am happy to be here, we have had a good six months together as a team. We are playing very well, now better than before, and I have a lot of confidence in this squad”.
