Match Report: RCD Espanyol lose Catalan derby
Los Pericos are bested 4-1 by Girona FC
RCD Espanyol lost 4-1 to Girona in their return to action after three weeks without a game.
Girona, who after an inconsistent start had achieved some stability in the league, came out strong and ready to test the intensity and concentration of Espanyol from the opening whistle.
Possession went to the home team, who soon took the lead thanks to a goal from Bryan Gil. Girona continued to push and converted almost all their attacks into goals: Miovski took advantage of two assists from his teammates to increase the difference before Krejci scored the fourth.
The script of the match changed little after the break. Girona kept up the danger and at times were close to scoring the fifth.
Espanyol, from one of their few attacks, managed to reduce their disadvantage with a great shot from Javi Puado from outside the area.
Coach Manolo González made several changes in an attempt to get his team to react and score a second goal that would add some excitement to the match, but Espanyol were unable to achieve their aim and ended up suffering another defeat.
