González: "We did not come out with the right intensity"
The coach's view on the derby loss
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González could not help but express his displeasure at the result of his side’s game against Girona FC at Montilivi. Speaking in the post-match press conference, he said that “the first action was not won by us, and ended in a goal. We had worked on the second ball all week, just like the other actions that ended with two more goals. These are things that cannot happen. We are not that bad. You cannot win games at this level, playing like this.”
The coach insisted that “I am worried. We are not finding our groove. We have a major problem. The way we lose affects the situation. We have to compete well, whatever happens, and not look for excuses. We did not come out with the right intensity. That cannot happen. If you do not match the intensity of the opponents, you cannot win.”
“I apologies to the fans. Although I think these words are worthless, I feel very bad for the Espanyol supporters. I'm leaving here feeling hurt, but tomorrow I have to get up and move on."
He also pointed out that "everything changed in the third minute. I looked for a reaction by making changes. I didn't expect what happened today. I've already been through similar situations and we'll work to turn things around. We have to be the team we've been before, not the one we were today. With today's mistakes, you can't compete in the Primera División."
