4-0: White and blue thrashing
A comfortable victory for Espanyol to end a great Saturday
Espanyol achieved a clear victory versus UD Logroñés to end a great Saturday for the white and blues. Vicente Moreno’s side decided the match by scoring three goals in under five minutes, which left the visitors without any options during their bad run of results. The three points enables them to get closer to the top spot and increase the gap between the others behind them in the league table.
Espanyol clearly played to win the three points against UD Logroñés. There was already a big difference between both teams in the first half, and it didn’t take the white and blues long to dominate the match. Pedrosa missed out on capitalising an amazing pass by Melendo, and shortly after, Dimata was in between shooting and crossing the ball, and wasted a great opportunity to open the scoreline. After a spectacular start to the match, the visitors managed to change the pace of the game for a few minutes in which Espanyol lost some of their momentum. But that didn’t amount to anything.
When the fans were still applauding after the 21st minute, Puado surprised the ex-Barcelona keeper, Rubén Miño, to put the white and blues in front. With barely any time to react, Melendo pulled off a little magic to leave the ball in the path of Embarba who extended the lead. Pedrosa made up for his initial mistake with a shot from outside the box that struck the back of the visitor’s net. Espanyol were a real force to contend with for a Logroñés side that hardly reacted. Even though David López was forced off for substitute Calero, this didn’t affect Vicente Moreno’s side which couldn’t totally keep up their performance before half-time.
The second half was less dramatic. The visitors tried to stop the bleeding, while Espanyol didn’t put a lot of effort into adding to the scoreline. However, it was Dimata who wrapped up the match and added another goal for the home side during his debut in the RCDE Stadium, by finishing off Puado’s good move on the right wing. A great victory for the “Espanyolistas” who will get a little more sleep being closer to the top spot.
