"We defended like animals"
Manolo González praises his team's resilience in the 2-1 win over Albacete
Manolo González reflected on the 2-1 win over Albacete Balompié on Sunday.
He said, “I am happy because we knew how to defend our advantage after the expulsion play, which has conditioned everything. However, we defended like animals to ensure victory. It was important to score early because it calmed the fans down. The goal is the credit of my coaching staff, who are in charge of set pieces”.
RCD Espanyol came from behind to take all three points thanks to Jofre Carrera’s early equaliser, before he set up Nico Melamed for the eventual winner in the second half.
González continued, “We were able to hold on with ten men against a very good opponent. Furthermore, the bench has added a lot in the final minutes. Now, we have to kill off these games much sooner, ensuring that our goal is well defended”.
