Trio officially presented

Kumbulla, Cheddira and Ünüvar are unveiled

Different LaLiga and international commitments had prevented new RCD Espanyol signings Kumbulla, Cheddira and Ünüvar from being presented officially after their arrivals last month, and as such the trio had the focus put on them ahead of Matchday 5. They spoke to the media alongside the club’s sporting director, Fran Garagarza.

“Kumbulla arrives from Roma after a long career in Serie A, he is an international with Albania and chose Espanyol over other options he had in Italy. He is a player who can adapt to different formations. Cheddira has been a difficult signing due to the timeframe used by his parent club, Napoli. He has a profile that we like. He is young, but he has experience and is very good in the area, as you have seen. Lastly, Ünüvar was an option that we felt very good about. He has a different profile. He has a good age, double nationality and gives us a lot of versatility. Ajax made it easy for us to continue with him.”

Kumbulla, Cheddira and Ünüvar stated that they were happy “to be here, at a historic club” and were confident that they would give their all “to help the team, going week by week.”

Finally, Garagarza noted that promotion to LaLiga “has given us more options to choose more players, but in some cases the options we had for foreign players were more viable than those for in domestic market.”
