A goal from Caicedo was enough to defeat FC Barcelona in the final
Espanyol won the second edition of the Catalan Supercup after defeating Barcelona thanks to a goal from Caicedo. The Ecuadorian striker took advantage of a great pass from Reyes to score the only goal of the match. The white and blue team defended the result and didn’t give any chance to Barcelona.
Even though Luis Enrique only used six players of the first team Barcelona was loyal to their philosophy. The ‘blaugranas’ had the ball while Espanyol, very well positioned during all the match, didn’t suffer at all to control their opponent. Quite the contrary as Caicedo took advantage of a great pass from Reyes to score the first goal. The Ecuadorian got rid of Mathieu and Masip to make the first.
After the goal Barcelona tried to increase their domain but Espanyol was very serious during the match. Caicedo had a nice battle with his defenders and every ball he touched was close to score. In the first half only Denis Suárez put in trouble Roberto with a shot that the goalkeeper cleared to corner.
In the second half the game wasn’t as brilliant. Espanyol kept tight to their plan and despite the team didn’t have much the ball they didn’t suffer at all against a team that didn’t shot to goal. Quique’s team defended very well and was able to become the champion of the second edition of the Catalan Supercup.
