S. Gómez: "We are close to getting the reward for our efforts"
The defender sets his sights on the game against Valencia CF
After a weekend off for the international break, the RCD Espanyol squad returned to training this week with their sights set on achieving their first home victory of the season. They take on Valencia CF at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday, and defender Sergi Gómez is predicting a tough game.
"The three points are very important for us, and we want them to stay here. We will be approaching the fixture with the utmost confidence and prudence," he said on Wednesday.
“We need to face this game with the mentality of it being a final. We continue to trust the process, and this is the way to go in order to win. We are close to getting the reward for our efforts," Gómez continued, noting that the squad will be working on adjustments to rectify problems from previous matches.
"An important thing will be for us to correct specific mistakes that have cost us points. We are focused on improving. One-off errors are much easier to correct than tactical mistakes."
Finally, speaking of his selection as one of the club's captains this season, he commented that “I'm proud and happy to have been chosen as a captain by the team. It is a very nice challenge for me. I'm really looking forward to it and feel able to take it on."
