Romero: "The team have a good feeling"
The defender talks during international week
Carlos Romero has been one of the standout players for RCD Espanyol at the start of the season. The defender spoke during the international break and assessed his side's current form.
“The team have a good feeling. We came off not getting points in three games ago, but the impression we got -especially at the Benito Villamarín- was good. We were just lacking effectiveness in the area, but the other day we got the three points, so we hope to continue in this way."
Romero said that RCD Espanyol have to improve “our accuracy in the final third. We need more chances per game, the team have to take a step forward and manage to create more. The Primera División is very demanding, any team is going to cause you problems, so a 3-0 deficit in the 90th minute is very difficult to overcome. The teams that have beaten us have also suffered and in the end they will be in Europe. We are always going to suffer."
On a personal level, he insisted that “the manager knows that I am a creative player, that I like to have the ball. He never forbids me from doing anything, he gives me total freedom and confidence to play in attack as I like. I feel very comfortable, we are showing that and I am very happy.”
"Manolo González is very demanding. He is capable of pushing the players and he gets us to do our best. When the squad was put together, there were rumours that he was weak, but we are on 10 points and Manolo is the one who has made those of us who have arrived give our best, and those who were here before take a step forward. It is a credit to the coaching staff and our work. The performance he is getting from each player is very good.”
