RCD Espanyol joins the fight against ALS
The Club is supporting the battle against the neurogenerative disease throughout the week
RCD Espanyol has joined the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a neurogenerative disease that impacts neurons in the brain, brain stem, and spinal cord which control the movement of voluntary muscles.
In Spain more than 3,000 people suffer from this disease and more than 100,000 could develop it throughout their lives. One of its main representatives is Espanyol fan Jordi Sabaté Pons, a fighter who, through social media, raises awareness about the importance of research to fight ALS.
In support of the battle against ALS, the Club invited Sabaté to the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque where he had the opportunity to carry out a special interview with RCD Espanyol men’s first team player Nico Melamed.
Sabaté will also join us on Sunday at the Stage Front Stadium for the match against Albacete, alongside representatives of the ALS research team at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, Head of the Neuromuscular Diseases Unit of the Neurology service, Raúl Juntas, and Communication Director, Fran García.
Among the different actions promoted by the Solidarity Super League, the Club will sell scarves with the slogan 'No surrender', which can only be purchased in cash on Sunday at the RCDE Store at the Stage Front Stadium and without any type of discount.
Finally, the earnings from the RCD Espanyol solidarity race on 29th June will be donated to the ALS research team at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital.
