RCD Espanyol Femenino lose season opener

The team are beaten 0-5 by Real Madrid

RCD Espanyol Femenino return to the top flight of women's football this season, but the team lost their first game back in the season opener at the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque. They fell 0-5 to Real Madrid, one of the top sides in the division.

Despite enjoying the first chance with a move by Arola, it was Madrid who took the lead in the 12th minute from a free kick, on their opening opportunity.

Ten minutes later, the visitors scored the second. Despite the adverse scoreline, Espanyol did not give up and had the chance to close the gap before the break.

After the interval, Madrid were even more effective than in the first half, and in two minutes they went from 0-2 to 0-4 up, with just over half an hour left. And in the final stretch they added to the result by making it 0-5.

On Wednesday, RCD Espanyol Femenino play in the Copa de la Reina.
