RCD Espanyol end the season with a draw
The team round off the campaign with a 0-0 stalemate with Granada
RCD Espanyol closed the 2021/22 season with a draw in Granada in a tight game that was intense, full of nerves and in which the team showed a good competitive response.
The last matchday of the season had plenty at stake for the home side, who were battling against relegation with Cadiz and Mallorca. For RCD Espanyol, their task had been completed several weeks earlier, as they ensured top flight survival. Under the interim management of Luis Blanco, they were focused on providing a good showing in the season finale.
Except for Antonio Puertas' first warning, which Diego López blocked, Espanyol were not overly overwhelmed in the first 45 minutes. Embarba and Puado put the local goalkeeper to the test and Jorge Molina also tried to do so against Diego López.
The second half began with a dive by Collado in an attempt to win a penalty, and little else. After those initial minutes, Los Pericos once again took over, but they were never able to find a clear shot on goal.
Another VAR decision against Espanyol -a third penalty in the last seven matchdays, this time for handball- gave Granada a big opportunity to go ahead. Jorge Molina, however, tried to tuck his shot inside the post and struck wide.
Carlos Bacca hit the post late on, as Granada desperately tried to earn survival with other scorelines going against them. The game ended goalless, Granada were relegated, and RCD Espanyol ended the campaign with another point.
