Opposition lowdown: Getafe
The Madrid-based team are the next opponents for RCD Espanyol
RCD Espanyol travel to Getafe on Sunday, searching for an important win for their LaLiga hopes.
Consecutive draws since the league resumption have laid the foundations, but Diego Martínez’s men will be chasing the win when they head to the capital. Getafe sit ahead in 13th but a win for the pericos would see them move ahead of their opponents in the table.

Last meeting
Getafe visited the RCDE Stadium in March 2022 when the two teams were evenly matched and with just a position between them in the table. It was Espanyol who had the upper hand and came away with a 2-0 win, with both goals from Leandro Cabrera and an Erick Cabaco own goal coming within the first half hour.
Key player
Since arriving in the summer on a permanent deal from Real Madrid, Borja Mayoral has been one of Getafe’s most important players and standout stars within the squad.
A centre-forward with a potent goalscoring record, he has played every match this season and scored five goals overall. Mayoral also arrives this weekend in top form, with three of those goals coming in his last two LaLiga appearances.
Club links
When Cabrera scored the opening goal in the last encounter between these two, it held more significance than usual, as he was scoring against his former side.
Cabrera spent two years with Getafe before signing for Espanyol in 2020, managing five goals in 66 appearances. He has now surpassed the centenary mark in the blanquiazul shirt and continues to add to his tally, as he returns to his former ground once again.
