No surrender
José Carlos Lazo is still buzzing from his dramatic stoppage-time winner against SD Eibar
José Carlos Lazo was the hero in Ipurúa when he scored a stoppage-time winner against SD Eibar, as he reflected on the winning moment with pride.
Sidelined for weeks with an injury and coming off the bench with the team trailing, Lazo fired home in the 99th minute to seal a 3-2 win for RCD Espanyol and send them into the automatic promotion spots. In what has been a challenging season last Saturday remains a high for the winger.
Lazo said, “No one will throw in the towel, not one of us, whether someone is injured or not in the matchday squad. This is a big Club and the team is united to achieve the goal, we are all in the same boat and in the same direction. If we lose, we all lose and if we win, we all win. That was evident the other day in Eibar and it was like a final.
“We knew that it was a very important game and that we had to win. The team is united, we are a family and we are going to move forward”.
The winning strike was Lazo’s first goal of the season, having only returned to the squad at the end of January. It was a first away victory for Espanyol in four months and a vital one at that, as Luis Miguel Ramis’ men push on for the top of the table.
Lazo continued, “The other day was an incredible joy. We managed to win away and in stoppage time, which makes it even better. You have to fight to the end because, in two minutes, your life can change. There is a long way to go however, and if we get too caught up we could drop down the table”.
