Moreno: "We won't be settling for a draw"
The coach says that the team will not change their approach against Real Madrid
RCD Espanyol coach Vicente Moreno looked ahead to the game against Real Madrid in LaLiga, which takes place this Saturday afternoon.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference after training at the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque, he made clear that his side would not be settling for a draw against the league leaders.
"A draw is not enough. Whenever you go out onto the pitch to play, you do so with the clear idea of winning. Afterwards, games can change and, depending on many factors, you can consider a point a good return."
Moreno insisted that the goal for his side was to ensure that his team seal safety for another season in the Primera División.
"In football, everything must be ensured mathematically. We have the feeling that we compete well against the teams at the top, and we want to prolong this dynamic to earn safety mathematically -just like Real Madrid want to clinch the title."
Asked if the victory in the first meeting between the two sides this season, at the RCDE Stadium, could be an emotional boost, Moreno stated that "the most important thing is to believe that victory is possible. I haven't looked at the statistics, but beating Real Madrid twice rarely happens."
"We are sure to have a few players drop out at the last minute tomorrow. We always turn to the youth team players when we need them. It's important that the Espanyol B players take a step up."
He also had praise for opposition coach Carlo Ancelotti, saying that "He will have won five different league titles. He does everything well. Not just managing the dressing room, which everyone says he is phenomenal at, but also tactically."
