Moreno: "We weren't up to the task against Villarreal"
The coach makes an honest reflection of the Matchday 26 defeat
Vicente Moreno did not look for excuses for the defeat at the hands of Villarreal, and recognised the difference in quality present on LaLiga Matchday 26.
Speaking after the 5-1 loss, he told the media that “we have tried to prepare for the game in the best possible way, because what we need is to win games. We were very excited about all the fans having come along, but we were not up to the task like they were, encouraging and pushing us on. Therefore, we must begin by apologising to them. We have to try not to let this happen to us and focus on winning Saturday's game against Getafe."
The RCD Espanyol coach added that "we started the match with a clear chance, we didn't finish it off, and then we gave away all the scoring chances they had. I insist, we have to apologise to our fans for the bad time they went through, and we have to focus on preparing for the next game -because that's how you move up."
He stressed that “Villarreal were well above us in the game. We came into this one off two games in which we had competed and deserved to beat two high-level rivals. Today we also needed to be at that level, and we didn't achieve it. We made mistakes against a rival with a lot of quality and we have to be closer to their standard -not so far apart."
