Moreno: "We gave away two goals too easily"
Vicente Moreno talks in his post-match press conference
RCD Espanyol coach Vicente Moreno analysed the defeat against Athletic Club at San Mamés in his post-match press conference. He highlighted the good start by his team, but lamented the rapid equaliser from the home side.
"After losing, my analysis can't be anything other than negative. It's not what we had hoped for, leaving empty-handed. We started the game well, but the feeling is that we gave away two goals too easily. Conceding so quickly makes you stop doing what had put us into the lead of the match momentarily. We weren't lucky enough for the final chance to go in, like we didn't get the penalty, which seemed very clear to us," he reasoned.
"The players are human and you have to take into account mistakes -both by you and the opposition. You have to make as few as possible, especially the simpler ones. When they occur, you have to take it more naturally and not stop doing what was planned," he added.
The coach also pointed out that "we placed special emphasis on defensive concepts, but football is very capricious. The first goal was from a move that we had studied and prepared for... and still they scored. It was only onside by a matter of centimetres. For the second goal, we should have been more forceful."
