Moreno: "We can reach the quarter finals, which is a big deal"
The RCD Espanyol coach looks at the Copa del Rey meeting with Mallorca
Vicente Moreno spoke about the Copa del Rey, the winter transfer market and LaLiga in his pre-match press conference, ahead of the cup meeting with RCD Mallorca. The coach addressed various matters, but insisted that the focus was on making it out of the Round of 16.
"We go there excited. We place a lot of value on the cup, and it has traditionally been an important competition for the club. We can reach the quarter finals, which is a big deal. We have the desire to have a good game, regardless of who the opposition are. They are a special side, above all because of my time at Mallorca, but for the rest of the players and members of our team it is also a special game," he told the press.
"They are a team who usually do well at home. There's always a very good atmosphere there. They will have a strong side, and tomorrow they will have that drive as well. They don't have a league game afterwards and their focus is on the Copa del Rey. I expect them to give everything. It will be a close match and they will push us."
"The most important thing now is tomorrow's game, then the one in Cádiz. First you have to focus on this game, and then on LaLiga. There are too many exciting things in play to only aspire to one thing."
Asked about which goalkeeper he would use in the Copa del Rey, Moreno would not be drawn on revealing any of his lineup. He did, however, comment on the quality of Dimata -who may lead the attack.
"He has had various problems during the season: Injury, Covid... He hadn't been consistently in the team enough to show his potential. Now he has had some time. The important thing is that when he comes in, he contributes. Then it is a question of form."
He was also quizzed about the possibility of movement in the transfer window, responding by saying that:
"I'm totally focused on those who are already here. Those who aren't at the club don't take up our time, especially 24 hours out from a game. I'm delighted with those players that we have but, like at any other team, there is always the possibility of improving and the club are working on this."
