Moreno: " We are not safe yet, but we are closer to that first goal"
The coach's verdict on the win against RCD Mallorca
RCD Espanyol's victory against RCD Mallorca allows them to keep calm in the international break and approach the last stretch of the season with optimism. Coach Vicente Moreno talked about the win in his post-match press conference, stating that “We all enjoyed it, because it is what we wanted. The three points bring us closer to our main objective. We are not safe yet, but we are closer to that first goal. The situation would have been very different had we not won today. There are many points at stake and now we have to do what is in our hands. We have to continue and see how far we can go," he reflected.
He also commented that “It was a shame that Raúl de Tomás didn't get his second goal. Winning a game is very tough, and even more so when you know how important it was.
Asked about his decision to Diego López at halftime, the coach explained that "The experience from last week made us think about the moment to make the change and we preferred not to take risks and put Oier on in the break."
As for the successful combination of Sergi Darder and RDT, Moreno said "We have talked a lot about them this week and, accompanied by the work of the rest of the team, their partnership has been decisive. They have done a great job, but not only today, and accompanied by the whole group."
He also turned down the request to talk about his former club, Mallorca, in detail.
"I have a lot of love and admiration for the city and the club, but I won't evaluate them because I have enough on my plate with my team. I wish them the best and I hope we can achieve all of our goals."
