Moreno: "The first half was very different to the second"
The coach's verdict on the draw with Osasuna
RCD Espanyol coach Vicente Moreno talked to the media in his post-match press conference, following the 1-1 draw with CA Osasuna at the RCDE Stadium.
"The first half was very different to the second. The team looked very nervous at the beginning, with many losses of possession. We weren't ourselves, and also played in a way that favoured Osasuna. However, our desire to win was the same. We talked in the halftime break and agreed that we had to be calmer. Regardless of the result, we did things better and we have transmitted that desire," he explained.
"In the second half we saw the team that we are capable of being, despite the negative scoreline of the first half. All difficult situations can be turned around by working hard, persisting and not thinking about anything other than the game. In the second half we were better, we looked for the win until the end and we had a chance with that last opportunity."
"It is a situation to improve: Those situations where when there are a few seconds left, making sure the ball does not come back to our area. I assure you that the players always have desire."
Asked about the impact of substitutes Melamed and Melendo, he added that "Both of them were really good today. I think they had a very important role in what happened in the second half. Being a homegrown player does not always mean that, whenever you go out onto the pitch, you perform. You have to look for that consistency in your performance."
"They are two good players. I'm happy for them, because they always have the will, as I said before, to do things well and, furthermore, if they do things well they have the option of being able to come on. The fans enjoy that, so it's ideal. We all have to do our part. I put them on, they perform and the fans spur them on and are happy."
