Moreno: "I wouldn't have given the penalty"
The coach's post-match press conference following the loss to Atletico Madrid
Vicente Moreno could not hide his discontent with a late penalty given against his side in their match with Atletico Madrid, expressing his thoughts in his post-match press conference.
“The image that I was able to see was not very precise, but you can see how Raúl de Tomás withdraws his arm and the referee does not whistle for the penalty initially. I would not call it," he commented.
"These actions in which VAR enter into play are ones that are not fully understood."
The coach has reiterated that “it doesn't seem like a penalty incident for VAR to check. I say this with the utmost respect because, in addition, today's referee has been doing very well throughout this season. There is talk of VAR and it seems that everything is very clear, but it is not. VAR is here to help and is here to stay, and in many ways it makes football fairer, but when it is a matter of criteria and interpretable incidents, it will be difficult for all of us to see things in the same way. I try to be fair: With this move, I remember an incident at San Mamés that was very, very clear -and VAR was not consulted then."
Moreno added that “I prefer to focus on the work we have done and the fact that we were able to anesthetize the opposition's virtues, mature in the game and try to win it. Their first goal was preceded by what could have been a goal for us, which Oblak saved.”
