Moreno: "A win would take us closer to our main objective"
The coach's preview of the meeting with RCD Mallorca
Before RCD Espanyol's game against RC Mallorca on LaLiga Matchday 29, coach Vicente Moreno previewed the encounter in his customary press conference. The opposition this weekend are a side who have given Los Pericos problems in their two meetings thus far this term.
"We think that all the games that are coming up for us are very important, and that is enough incentive, regardless of who the opponents are or how the games went in the first half of the season and the Copa del Rey. We want to win, simply because we need victories and we want to be as high up the table as possible," he stated.
"We only care about ourselves and about doing things well to win. We want to win, and if it were any other side that we were playing, it would be exactly the same. We will try to perform at our highest level."
"A victory would allow us to move up to 36 points and be closer to the first objective that we set for ourselves from the first day we arrived back in the top flight. We have the difficulty of playing opponents who, just like us, want to win. It is a very important match, like all the ones that remain."
"Our main objective when we took over at the club was promotion, and the next one was to make sure that we stayed in LaLiga. When we do that, we will think about other objectives that we can achieve this season. The targets are progressive as time goes by."
Asked about the availability of Diego López, who has been struggling with an injury, Moreno told the media that "Nobody is ever at 100%, but he is ok, in the squad and completely available to play."
One player who will be sidelined is Javi Puado, as the RCD Espanyol coach revealed that "Whenever he has been available, he has been important. We don't spend too much time dwelling on what it means to not have him in the squad, as we are more focused on who can give us the performance that we need."
Fielding a question about Raúl de Tomás and his importance, Moreno commented that "Raúl usually plays the full 90 minutes, which is why he is the one who has the most chances to score and the requirement of being the player who scores the most goals. It is important that the rest of his teammates contribute with goals. It is not easy to have scored in so many games in a row, but it means that we are generating chances, that Raúl is in there and that when he is not so lucky there are others who come through."
