Moreno: “We were lacking things”
The coach's reaction to the loss against Alavés
Vicente Moreno lamented the team's defeat against Alavés on LaLiga Matchday 36, and gave his verdict on the performance in his post-match press conference.
“We knew it would be a difficult game, but I had the feeling that the first half was less tough than it could have been. In the second half we didn't have time for anything. We controlled things and on the first move, 20 seconds in, we had a player sent off. It's not an excuse, but that incident made the game difficult. From then on we were holding on and fighting for a draw."
The coach acknowledged that “we obtained 39 points relatively quickly this season, and had the possibility of either getting a good final position or having a tricky end to the campaign. It's true that we've had opponents like Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, but we've had other games in which we haven't taken advantage of things. It has been getting tough for us and generating a bad feeling because of us not winning. Thats the reality. There are two games left and we have to try to win them to change this dynamic."
He also recognised that “Alavés' style of play made us uncomfortable, but we made mistakes and we almost helped them go ahead. In any case, I also had the feeling that we were close to the opposition area, but we were lacking things. We were in there, in the game, thinking that in the second half we could get on the right track."
