Match Report: Isolated chances cost RCD Espanyol against Sevilla FC
Los Pericos lose 0-2 at home on Matchday 11
Espanyol saw their good run of home results come to an end at the RCDE Stadium on Matchday 11, as two isolated opportunities from Sevilla FC's Lukébakio condemned them to a 0-2 loss.
Los Pericos started out with plenty of energy, pressing high and making themselves uncomfortable opponents for a Sevilla side that had a hard time getting into the game. A promising initial spell, saw Cheddira offer up ideas, and the midfield keep things under control.
Trying to replicate his goal from Matchday 10 against Athletic Club, Álvaro Tejero struck a long-range free kick, but was unable to find the net.
However, the game took a turn when Sevilla, from their first dangerous attack, took the lead through a sensational shot from Lukébakio. The visitors then began to break through RCD Espanyol's press more frequently and create further unease.
The game became more even and Espanyol had a great chance to equalise, but neither Král nor Puado could take advantage of Cheddira's header towards the back post.
Once again, it was Lukébakio who punished Manolo González' men, with the second goal of the night coming off a solo move.
Constant stoppages prevented the second half from gathering rhythm, and whilst Veliz had a good chance to reduce the deficit off a corner, his header wide was one of the final opportunities. A late penalty given to RCD Espanyol and subsequently cancelled out by VAR, summed up an unfortunate night.
