Martínez: "These three points are a reward for the team"
The coach reacts to a 1-2 win over Getafe on the road
Delighted RCD Espanyol coach Diego Martínez spoke of the positive impact a victory against Getafe will have on his side, in his post-match press conference.
“These three points reward the team, our good work and the growth that we've made in the process that I have been talking about. It's what we all want. We are happy with the result, and with how we achieved it against a very difficult opponent, but this is going to be a very long and very hard road," warned the coach.
"We needed to be very solid in defence, then freedom to the midfielders and for the front three to have a one-on-one situation."
“No player or system can be discarded, as they are all important. This formation occupied our spaces well, and I thank the players for the courage they had," he continued.
Regarding Joselu's goal, struck from almost the halfway line in the opening moments, he pointed out that "you have to give him credit for that shot at that moment: It is the player's talent, although it is true that he had some information beforehand."
"I feel so proud when players like Joselu, Darder or Cabrera, who have many games under their belts, stand up for the team and for what they are doing. That means that our everyday work is good."
“We don't look at the table. When Matchday 38 arrives, we will be where we deserve to be," said Martínez.
"Our numbers are good away from home overall: We won in Bilbao, we won here, and we drew at the Metropolitano and the Camp Nou."
