Martínez: "Preseason games are always affected by the workload and the mix of players"
The coach reacts to the 1-0 loss to Real Balompédica Linense
RCD Espanyol coach Diego Martínez spoke after the defeat against Real Balompédica Linense, commenting that “these matches are important to give players minutes, and those players who have had fewer chances have been able to play more minutes -and for a long time. We have to keep in mind that we have another game in two days and a trip in between. We have players who are carrying knocks, and we preferred not to take risks with them. The level of effort was good, but we lacked clarity and finishing. In the second half we didn't make the right decisions on moves that ended up being offside."
He also pointed out that “young players continue to accumulate minutes ahead of what is expected of their maturation process” and added that “preseason games are always very heavily affected by the workload and the mix of players. We must value Pol Lozano's effort, as he came into the game with discomfort and pushed himself to play. We have to keep working."
