Martínez: "Being able to coach this club is a privilege and an honour"
The new RCD Espanyol coach is presented following his appointment
RCD Espanyol presented new coach Diego Martínez at the RCDE Stadium this Tuesday, following the announcement of his appointment through to 2024.
Speaking at the unveiling, the coach said that "I am extremely excited to be here. Being able to coach this club is a privilege and an honour, and this opportunity is a gift."
“I always perceived Espanyol as something special and unique: The club attracted my attention from the outside and I was excited about the chance to be able to build something together here. I have the freedom to take steps forward. It was a decision I felt I had to make, life is all about moments and I feel that Espanyol suit me."
The Spaniard also explained that “one of the things that attracted me was the clarity of Domingo Catoira about the project: 'This is what we are, and we want to be better.' We don't want to focus on the results, but rather on the path we need to follow: We need to grow by growing."
On his squad plans, Martínez insisted that he wants a "team that transmits, spreads and respects the values with which Espanyol have always identified, and to excite and always be competitive. I ask my players to win everything they can. That has to be the idea. What is non-negotiable is that day-to-day work is our key to improvement and growth."

The presentation was also attended by the CEO of RCD Espanyol, Mao Ye Wu, who said that "We are starting a new stage, with one of the most prestigious and prominent coaches in the Spanish league, to continue building the club and continue to excite the fans. We are very clear about the club model.”
