The goalkeeper talks after penalty shootout heroics
Diego López saved two penalties in the Copa del Rey shootout against Ponferradina, and was decisive in RCD Espanyol making it through to the next round.
Speaking after the game, he commented that “We are very happy about going through. It was a very tough and competitive game. Ponferradina are a great team, who we already knew from last season,”
"We have got through to the next round, which is very important for us, because we have a lot of faith in this cup and in us continuing to progress."
The Galician goalkeeper also acknowledged that he was happy to play in the competition again.
“It was good to play in the Copa del Rey again, after some time, to be decisive and to help the team. We are all happy because it was a difficult game.”
As for the secret to his two penalty saves, he gave credit to goalkeeping coach, Jesús Salvador.
“Jesus does a very important job. Before the shootout, we talked to see what we were going to do. I think the work that we did was very good on everyone's part,” he concluded.
