Late drama in 2-2 draw with Cádiz
Two goals in the final moments provide twists and turns on Matchday 21
Espanyol took a point from their visit to the Nuevo Mirandilla, in a game that featured two goals late on. Whilst they had led the way against Cádiz in a first half that they dominated, Los Pericos would concede at the start of the second period, and appeared to be on course for an undeserved defeat when Iván Alejo scored at the start of stoppage time. In the dying moments, Raúl de Tomas earned a 2-2 draw for Espanyol.
Cádiz came into the game in poor form, languishing inside the relegation zone. Espanyol were looking for a turnaround, after their defeat at the weekend in the Copa del Rey and their setback at home against Elche.
Los Pericos were fully focused, and ran play in the opening first 45 minutes. Manu Morlanes scored shortly after the kickoff, thanks to a spectacular assist from Darder. From then on, there were opportunities to extend the lead, as well as control of possession, but no additional goals.
At the beginning of the second half, more chances arrived. Whilst the Espanyol dominance continued, a defensive mistake inside the area allowed Cádiz's Negredo to beat Diego López and make it 1-1.
The equaliser lifted the spirits of the home team, who found the net again -but had the goal disallowed for a clear foul by Negredo on Diego López.
In stoppage time, Alejo managed to provide a scare by beating the Galician goalkeeper, but RDT would equalise from another Darder assist with the final kick of a thrilling spell of play.
