Joselu: “The team is calm and strong”
The striker assures that the squad is confident and looking to rise up the table
Joselu spoke to the media in a press conference on Wednesday as he showed he was fully convinced of the team’s ability.
Speaking ahead of RCD Espanyol’s trip to Getafe on Sunday, he said, “We must stay calm, at the end of the day it’s still the first half of the season. The changing room is calm because we are close to quite a few teams in the table.
The team has grown a lot since pre-season, we have become much better and eliminated the mistakes from our game. We have had good matches; we are in a good moment and we must keep going”.
Joselu’s header against Girona last week was his ninth LaLiga goal of the season, and his 10th in all competitions for the Club. “I am happy to score goals to help the team pick up points, and we are all focused on the match against Getafe”, he said.
He continued on Sunday’s trip, “We are going to go and try and win at a difficult ground. We want the three points, but this is not the time to speak about vital matches nor finals. Our first objective is the match against Getafe, the Copa del Rey will come later”.
Espanyol come off the back of consecutive derby draws against Barça and Girona and will look to get the win when they go to the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez this weekend. There are three league matches left until the halfway point of the season, which include a cup round of 16 tie away to Athletic Club.
Joselu concluded, “We are in a position that doesn’t do justice to the group of players we have, we have players who are able to reverse this situation. I trust my teammates because I am convinced that we are in a rut, but we have the right tools to get out of it.
“The team is strong with a winning mentality and the work has to reinforce what we are doing. Now we have a difficult game on Sunday, and we have a strong mentality to get wins”.
