Herrera: "We have to keep evolving and help the team"
The midfielder aims for a consistent run of minutes upon his return from injury
Yangel Herrera featured in RCD Espanyol's LaLiga game against Sevilla last Sunday, confirming his recovery from a series of injury setbacks that had left sidelined throughout January. The Venezuelan is aiming to put fitness problems behind him in the coming weeks, and to help Los Pericos to achieve good results.
“My goal is to be able to help the team as much as possible, play consistency and start racking up victories. I want to contribute my part and have some great games between now and the end of the season,” he reflected in conversation with RCD Espanyol TV.
Herrera added that he faces this final stretch of the season “with a lot of optimism, because my feeling is good. We have had games that have gotten away from us due to some small details. We will go to Villarreal this weekend with the same dynamic and with good morale, aware that it will be a hard game and that we will face a very tough rival. We want to achieve a victory at a difficult ground."
The midfielder lamented the circumstances that have denied him a more prominent role in the starting lineup.
“Before Christmas I was picking up the pace, and then I had a setback after the Christmas break. I'm back now, and I hope to continue getting minutes. I finished the last game feeling good. We have to keep evolving and help the team, which is what I want the most."
