González: "We will go out to win"
The coach speaks ahead of the playoff semifinal second leg
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González is facing the second leg of the promotion playoff semifinal against Sporting Gijon with both serenity and confidence. His side hold an advantage from the first leg, but he promised an attacking approach from Los Pericos.
“We will go out to win. We know the level of the opposition in front of us and we are playing at home. We will go for the game and look to win, no matter what.”
The coach pointed out that “we come into this one mentally well and strong. You have to keep a cool head because it will be a difficult game against very good opponents.”
“These are games that last 180 minutes. We are very aware of the responsibility we have.”
For González, the team must have “the personality we showed other day. We don't want to change that. We must have long spells of possession and rest when we have the ball. We must not make mistakes that allow the opponents into the game."
Playing at home, the RCD Espanyol coach insists that "I have no doubt that the fans will get behind us. When the team and the club have needed the fans, they have always responded. They will lead us to victory, I am sure. They have never failed us throughout the history of this club. They will be fully behind us and we have to thank them, because without them we would lack strength.”
