González: "Effectiveness will be important"
The coach previews the game against Real Madrid
A positive Manolo González is convinced that RCD Espanyol will be competitive enough to perform well against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The coach admits that the match “will be very difficult, just like the one against Atletico Madrid, but we believe in what we do and we are convinced that we can win there.”
"It will be a match in which we will have to work hard and run faster than the opposition. That is why we have to have personality. The team improve and grow with every game. We are convinced of the work we do and we have a strong mentality. Anything can happen, but we are going there with the conviction of getting the win.”
He added that, in games of this type, “effectiveness is important. If you get six chances and don’t score, it penalises you. We have to be very effective. We have to have a perfect game and have slightly defensive mentality, compete and work as a group.”
"Since I was little, I dreamed of being a footballer, but I have had to dedicate myself to coaching instead. I have been in every category and I would like to be at this club for many years. That would be a good sign for us and for the stability of the club," he said of the occasion.
"In any case, the same thing that happens at other grounds also happens to me here: I go out to train in our stadium and for me it is the best. I hope that the club hold out for many years in the Primera División. Tomorrow we are going to a special ground, but my idea is to be here for a long time and help the club improve day by day.”
