González: "Away points will bring us closer to staying up"
The coach reflects on the 1-1 draw in Seville
Manolo González was satisfied with the draw away to Sevilla FC and acknowledged in his press conference that “anything that means getting points away from home will bring us closer to staying up. We suffered, but the team stood up to be counted and competed well. Now it’s time to try to get the new players to play how we want and adapt to the team.”
The coach also stressed that “it’s very important that we concede few goals, especially away from home. That gives you a chance of getting to the final minutes alive. We have to continue in the same way, because that will get us closer to survival.”
He also emphasised that RCD Espanyol’s disappointing away record “is killing us.”
“At home we have acceptable numbers. Today we got the point that other days, like away to Getafe or Las Palmas, we couldn’t salvage. We have to know how to hold onto a draw, because when you can’t win, you have to keep taking points.”
Finally, he acknowledged that “today I was late with the substitutions. It made us feel insecure, but then we stopped suffering, although we lacked better counterattacking.”
