Gómez: "Our unity is magnificent"
The club captain talks about the challenge ahead
Sergi Gómez is beginning his fourth season at RCD Espanyol, and has the ambition to do well in a tough Primera División.
“We have just achieved promotion, which was an important moment for the club. Those of us who were already there, the people from the reserve team and the new arrivals are enjoying ourselves now," said the club captain at the preseason training camp in Navata.
“We came out of last season strengthened in many aspects. In the dressing room we achieved an impenetrable unity. We know that we are going to play against top-level teams this season and we know the difficulty of the league, but what worries me the least is the unity of the group -because it is magnificent.”
Looking ahead to the opening summer match against Girona FC, behind closed doors, Gómez pointed out that “one of the things that the coach commented on was that there was no time to apply all the concepts that he wanted to see instilled. He is insisting on them so that we can put them into practice.”
Finally, the captain stressed that “we are facing the season with great enthusiasm and strength. We have all experienced great personal growth and we are excited and eager to face this challenge.”
