Fitness coach details preseason preparations
Dani Parra talks after the training camp
RCD Espanyol finished the second part of their preseason with their return from the Hotel Torremirona Golf & Spa, and fitness coach Dani Parra gave very positive assessment of the work carried out by the squad.
“What we have tried to do is to accumulate higher workloads. Playing only the one match against Girona and distributing the minutes between the squad allowed us to train more, with greater volume. It is very specific work and now it is about progressing coherently and getting closer to the demands we must have,” Parra summarised.
“Talking with my colleague David Martín, we saw that we had to adjust the preparation, because we did not have the classic six weeks of preseason before the opening game. We have had to compress it a little more. We finished last season later and, although we were not able to apply the progression we wanted, we have adapted the workloads,” he explained.
"With fewer days off, the players have not lost too much fitness. However, the bad thing is that we cannot progress as we wanted because we are one week away now, but there is no other option than to adapt.”
The coach pointed out that the team are “training very well. Many times during preseason you have to adjust things because you see that a player is not up to par or the workload is high, but we are following the plan we had in mind. Now there are more matches and, therefore, the priority is to reach a competitive pace in them. Now we have to look for the players to reach their best competitive form."
