Expósito: "This is the biggest challenge of my career"
The midfielder reflects on his return from injury
Having put his long-term knee injury behind him, Edu Expósito has been included in squads and matches in recent weeks. He spoke to the media ahead of RCD Espanyol's Friday night fixture against Real Valladolid.
“I'm feeling good. I need to adapt and get used to things, but I think I'm ready for whatever the coach decides," he explained.
"I have been out for eleven months and the minutes I get will be useful to me."
“I'm facing the biggest challenge of my career, because I'm coming off an injury. I won't be the one to save the team because we are a group, a team, and I have to help out. I have been out for many months and I can bring freshness to the side.”
Expósito also expressed his gratitude “to the coach for his kind words."
"I hope to be able to repay him with good minutes, goals and assists. Also the fans. There is history behind this club. People want the team to stay in the Primera División. They are our driving force and they showed it last year -and also this season.”
Finally, regarding Friday's match, he said that "talking about games being a 'final' so soon doesn't seem right to me. We're facing a direct rival who are ahead of us on goal average because they beat us in the first encounter. We know how important this match is. We know that we have to win and turn around the goal difference because that, at the end of the season, is very important."
