"Espanyol is an ideal place to build a project"
Quique Sanchez Flores, in his presentation as new white and blue coach shows his enthusiasm to lead the sport project
Thrilln has flooded in the RCDE Stadium. In a crowded press conference, Quique Sánchez Flores has been presented as new RCD Espanyol new coach. The coach has dazzled the espanyolismo with his speech and his ideas in an appearance in which he has made clear his desire to build a new Espanyol and lead this sports project.
Sanchez Flores has indicated that "in recent years what moves me is the heart and I go where I think I can be happy and do a good job. What I want is to do my job well and reach fans' hearts; that is our work. Espanyol is an ideal place to build a project. I appreciate the confidence of the directors. I want the club to regain its historical and competitive face and identity". The new Espanyol coach said that "pressure is implicit in this profession. I have been playing and coaching for 30 years and I don’t want working without pressure. The most important thing is that the management wants to give solid steps to grow. We want to dispute the Liga from the 10th onwards and not from 10th to 20th although we know that the first year will be the most difficult of all".
On his press conference, Sánchez Flores has analysed many aspects but has said that "when you get the freedom to build, you really want to do it. I like challenges, I like teams that want to be what they were and also new things. We will grow if we think of ourselves, without comparing without getting distracted. To grow as a strong united team is crucial to avoid comparisons with to the rest". In this context he added that "Espanyol is a historic team, I have it in my memory since I was a kid. It is a team that has ideal conditions to grow".
Regarding the profile of players he commented that "we are looking for players committed and that have good mentality, because we will be an adaptable team. We will have collective challenges and we want a very high degree of commitment. Sometimes we need very young players, others in good age and more experts, who are also required. The most important thing is to specify the type of player we want and then the final decisions to be taken". In this sense, he said that the club is "starting to build. We have three weeks in which we have not stopped. We have identified the base and the number of players who will serve for the future. I love that players who I have never managed before and they are interested in signing for Espanyol".
He also remarked that wants to build an " equally balanced team in defense and attack, that can play good football, but will depend on the squad that we are able to do. We will be smart and try to impose philosophy best suited to the characteristics of the players".
Another pillar of Quique Sánchez Flores, who will have a clause of four million euros, are the fans: "We will work for the fans to be proud; I will raise this because there is no other way to reach the hearts of our people”
Espanyol sporting director, Ángel Gómez, explained what were the premises for choosing Sanchez Flores as a coach. "We wanted a coach who had ambition, worker with personality. When the sports area makes the analysis of a coach, we appreciate the training methodology, how to prepare and direct the party and the management of the team and the environment. I think Quique is one of the most complete coaches there are”.
Finally, the CEO of the club, Robert Ramon, said "We found a person who has been involved to the point that it seemed he had been here a lot of years".
